RE: How/Where to Find a Used Truck?

Try Lawrence Marshall in Hempstead. They usually have a bunch of new & used trucks at a fair price.

RE: 45 yr old TV.... can it work?

It will need to have inserts in the valves in the head, and all the rubber fuel line stuff replaced with ethenol friendly stuff. It should work though. I had a 68 with a 430 engine. Heck of a beast.

RE: Opinions on what to get for $20K

You can't go wrong with a 03 to 05 Dodge with a stick. Or a Chevy with a Dmax form the problem free years. The 02 & 03 Fords are good trucks too, and a lot of people have problem free 6.0 PSDs too; however, a lot of people have had problems with the 6.0 PSD.

RE: GCVWR??

I would really pay attention to GCVWR & GAWR. The first because it's what the manufacturer says its what it will pull & stop. The second because it's the law.

RE: Finally went the way of the Diesel!

Did you get an 04, or 04.5. The six speed could be a NV5600, or a G56. Does it have a cataletic converter, or no cat? I think the 03 thru 04s before the cats in the exhaust were the best ones made.

RE: Towing a 5th with a Ram 2500 Hemi?

I think it will be OK as long as you don't mind hearing the engine Rev. The Hemi like most gassers makes it's power up in the upper RPMs. That's why I traded to a diesel. The diesel just keeps it's low hum going up over the hills. Might drop down out of OD, but just hums a relaxing song.

RE: slideout ?

We leave ours in as it doesn't fit in the storage to well with them open.

RE: Aluminum or wood construction

I believe there are good trailers built with both materials. It matters more how they build the trailer.

RE: RV Garages

You can make the drawing yourself, and have it built to the Southern Building Code. It doesn't have to be highly detailed for a good contractor to give you estimates from.

RE: waxing

I use Gel-Gloss on mine. It's sold at Home Depot for fiberglass. It's in the plumbing department. Goes on easy & comes off easy. Paste wax is usually for rubbing out paint. You just need a wax.

RE: PPL Motor Homes

I sold my TT thru them 2 years ago. It cost me 10%, but they got more for it than I could of. It was gone in 2 weeks too. I was a pleased seller, and would use them again.

RE: Dodge 5.9 vs 6.7

If I were in the market I would be looking for a 5.9. As mentioned before the book is still out onthe 6.7, and the MPG's are better.

RE: Have you added a 2nd A/C to your rig ?

Tinting the windows will help a lot, or cover them with insulated foil. The portable AC really does it for us. It stores in a closet in the bedroom, and rolls out to be plugged in. It's a 9k BTU model, but there are differnt sizes of them.

RE: Have you added a 2nd A/C to your rig ?

I recently bought a portable AC for the bedroom of our trailer. I ducted the hot air out thru a roof vent, and ran a seperate power cord outside. I can plug the portable's power right into the power pedestal, and the trailer's power is as normal. I didn't really want to add a second roofmount AC due to the cost & weight. We don't need a second AC all the time, but in 90+ degree heat & full sun we needed more. We go to the beach for the weekend 4 or more times a summer.

RE: buying new 5'er TV question

I don't think you would have a problem. I am pulling a 11.7K lb fifth with a Dodge 3/4 CTD. Look into overload springs & a stabilizer bars for front & rear. You should be alright. Don't exceed the GCWR & GAWR for the truck.

RE: "Almost" makes me want a manual tranny

I like my manual, but can't talk on the cell phone while driving at all.

RE: Tow Veh Purchase?

First off a 37ft fifth wheel doesn't weigh 1656 LBS. The best advice I've seen so far is to buy the economy car, and hire out the occasional trailer moves; however, if your buying a truck make it a 1 ton dually. You will need it for pin weight.

RE: Help with wiring 2nd A/C in front bedroom

I have a 32ft Hitchhiker 2, and just bought a portable air conditioner for the front. I didn't want to go thru the hassel of wireing & installing another AC. We tried it last weekend. 94 degrees outside, and full sun. The inside temp was 76, and both the trailer's AC & the portable AC were cycleing on & off like they should. I'm happy cause Mommas happy & cool.

RE: A bit of a shock at the weigh scale/trip report...

Gonna get rid of the 02 huh. I run about the same weight as you, but have a little more on the rear axel. I have a little less on the trailer axels. I have the 6 speed, and 20k GCWR. I stay under the GCWR & GAWR. I think they are the most important. I hope you like the new 07 when you get it. I don't put enough miles on mine now to justify a new one. I wouldn't take a 6.7 though. I would trade up to a new 5.9 if money was no biggie. Have fun on your trip. And yes Dodge/Cummins 3/4 tons are under rated. If you have the "camper Package" with a diesel in an 01 or 02 you basically got a 1 ton SRW. They didn't label or make a 1 ton SRW untill 03.
